Do you remember the romantic travelling circus troupe that you imagined as a child? That misty memory of the Beautiful Dancer, the Sword Swallower, the Strongman, the Little Person, the Tattooed Man… Was this but a dream or has this vanished, rolling off into the sunset only to be lost to legend?
The Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow, is indeed this rag-tag troupe from days gone by, inviting you to experience beautiful performances and strange practices that have been part of the history of what we know as circus today. Conjuring memories of popcorn and candy apples, and dusting off that feeling of awe and uneasiness that every circus goer used to know well.
Hosted by Miss BonBon Bombay, award winning Burlesque artist, Blue Mushroom performances are a tongue-in-cheek mix of traditional Circus and Sideshow acts, Dance, Theatre, Vaudeville, Burlesque and set to an equally eclectic soundtrack selected by István Betyár. Not only are the performances authentic entertainment of yesteryear, but every prop and article of wardrobe used by the troupe are Museum Artifacts or Museum Quality Artisinal Pieces. No plastic, store-bought gizmos or "Made in China" under this canvas!
The troupe features the four core performers; the aforementioned Miss BonBon Bombay, Gitana Georgia; Flamenco Dancer Extraordinaire, István Betyár; world-renowned Sword-Swallower and Fire-Eater & The Mighty Leviticus; Illustrated Strongman Extraordinaire. Performances occasionally feature the troupe's DJ, Semira and has been known to expand to present as many as thirteen performers in all, from various disciplines that one would expect to see in a variety show, as well as others that one wouldn't. Blue Mushroom performances have been known to occur in dingy bars, the occasional festival or rave, and often share the stage with friends like The Unsettlers, Bad Uncle; and other groups such as DubTribe, and have even graced the stages of prestigious establishments like Montréal's Rialto Theatre, Plaza Theatre, Place des Arts and Québec City's Théâtre Capitol.
Always entertaining, compelling, surreal, and loaded with audience participation, the Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow has inspired critical acclaim from its début performance.
